I am joining in on Just Me and My Life's fill in the blank! Hers is a Friday fill in the blank special, but I guess mine will be a Saturday Special!

1. Did you pass your driver's test on the first try?
Absolutely!

2. What is your most embarrassing moment?
Hmmm....I have several. To narrow it down to one is a bit hard. I guess I'd have to say falling UP the stairs at my college! I don't know what happened. It was right in the middle of a class change, so everyone was there. I face planted and sprawled out everywhere. Awful. One girl asked if I was ok, and at that moment I really didn't want to be talked to. I probably wasn't very nice to her!

3. What TV show would you like to be on- Oprah, Biggest Loser, or What Not to Wear? Definitely What Not to Wear. I've even thought of trying to stage a tragic wardrobe video just to get on. I find that I just don't know what looks the most flattering on my body. I need help. And I also need someone else's money to buy a new wardrobe!

4. Would you ever get plastic surgery and what kind?
Probably something like a tummy tuck.

5. What are your favorite jeans to wear?
I don't have a particular brand that I go for. I like Old Navy jeans. Really, just whatever I can find that fits really good and comfy!

Friday Cleaning Favorites

Hap Hap Happy Friday! Ahhh, so glad it's here! But there is no rest for the weary. Nuh uh.
I've got a super busy weekend ahead - tomorrow I'm shooting a wedding in Augusta. So that'll be about 14 hours of my day!
But so much fun!

Anyways, onto Friday Favorites and Show Us Your Life.!

Today's show us your life theme is cleaning tips. But first I must give you some favorites!
Here's my newfound favorite household cleaning products:

I love love love Clorox Greenworks. The whole line.

Not only is it good for our planet, it's MUCH better on your lungs! See, I have asthma and everytime I clean with anything that has bleach in it, my lungs hurt for days! Well this has a very light scent and it's a fresh one at that!

Here's some more green cleaners I just found out about and must try:

It's Martha Stewart's brand! Anything she does is fabulous, so I must try!!!

As for cleaning tips:

**I keep Clorox wipes in the bathroom and am attempting to train my husband to use them after he goes to the bathroom. He has his good days and bad days.
Apparently, according to him, the problem is that when he gets up in the mornings, he's still half asleep and can't concentrate on his aim.
*******UNACCEPTABLE*******
Do you hear me Christopher? I'm calling you out!
I think most of the issues in our marriage could be taken care of if he would just sit down to pee.
Ah well! Just need him to use the wipes to clean the front/floor of the toilet!

**I always dust before vacuming. There's a process. If you dust first, then you're able to vacum up any dust that fell off your rag while dusting. It really works better this way.

There's nothing better than the smell of a clean house!

Speaking of, do any of you have suggestions for getting the smell of fried foods out of your house. I made chicken tenders last night and now our whole apartment smells like one! ICK!!!!

10 Things You May Not Know

Since it's hump day and all, I think we need a little fun. So I stole this from the LPM Blog and decided to share.

1. I'm a ridiculously picky eater. I prefer to think of myself as a starch-atarian.

2. I'm a realist. My husband is a dreamer. He affectionately calls me "the dream crusher"

3. I hate it when people say things like "Lauren and I's house..." - it is very wrong! ;)

4. I have a fetish with ink pens. My favorites are those from doctor's offices.
5. I am definitely a morning person. When it gets dark, I'm ready for bed.
6. I'm a photographer and I see everything as if I was looking through a camera!
7. I'll do anything cheesy for a good picture.
8. I also have a fetish for lists, gray socks, and office supplies.
9. I desperately want a baby.

10.I love hugs. But they have to be real hugs. I hate it when people give those fake, light-touching hugs. I want to be squeezed like you mean it!
So tell me 10 things about you!!!

Let's Be Friends.....

You can follow me here: twitter.com/laurenthomaspics

Or here on Facebook by clicking the button on my sidebar.

So, let's be friends!

That is all.

Adulthood.

Well to be honest, I'm not a fan of it.
It makes me feel a bit like this:

Isn't it funny how when we're kids, we can't wait to grow up. Then once we're adults, we spend all of adulthood wanting to be a kid again.

I don't get it.

It's really hard!

You know what gets me?
Budgeting.
Every time I re-do our budget, I feel like that crazy lady above!

Ick!

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of things I love about being a real life grown up.

But I wish someone else magically paid the bills, allocated money to savings, (you know, with THEIR money), and then with the money Chris and I make could be used to have fun with.

Sounds dreamy.

And an awful like when I was 15!

In other news, school started for me last night. I'm finishing my degree online.
What?
Self-discipline? What's that?
And you want me to have this so called self-discipline, manage a budget, and act like an adult?
What was I thinking?

Ah well. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger right?

By the time I'm done, I should be the incredible Hulk!

Spring Is Here

And to celebrate, my aunt and I spent the whole day taking pictures around town!!! Such a perfect day!
So, go ahead and click HERE to see a few from the day. The only picture I missed was the only one I wish I had.
And what was it?
It was a naked black man running down the middle of Peachtree St. For those of you who are non-GA natives, it is the main road that runs through Atlanta.
Ah yes, we were at a red light and all of a sudden here comes this man. He had his shirt on, pants and shoes in hand, and NO underwear. I literally saw ALL of him.
My innocence has been taken.
My virgin eyes scarred.
But so very funny!!!
I'm guessing he got caught in the act of something very naughty!
Now go look at some pictures from the rated G things of the day! HERE!!!

Show Us Your Life - Mission Trips!

Well good morning and happy Friday! I'm joining Kelly over at Kelly's Korner for her weekly Show Us Your Life carnival.

So you wanna know about mission trips huh?

Well alright then!

I have only been on one, but I would love to do a hundred more!
Life. Changing. is all I can say!

Chris and I went to Slovakia with our church college group in 2004. Slovakia had recently made the transition from communist to democracy after the split of Czechoslovakia.

***sidenote: Now I do have tons of pictures, but no access to them at the moment. I promise I will have pictures up by Monday!***

Our mission: Teach at an English camp for 14 days

Our Literature: The Bible

Apparently, Slovakian students are required to know a certain amount of languages before they can graduate high school. Therefore, kids go to various camps during the summer to help them along with this. The camp had different tiers ranging from beginners to advanced. I taught an advanced English group. Chris was with beginners.

It was a little weird at first. It took a minute for the kids to warm up to us.
Slovakia was beautiful!
I learned so much.
Like, how much I adored ice. Apparently you only got ice (and just a couple pieces) in the city.
Or, how much I loved Mexican food.
And definitely how much I hated Slovak food. Not lovin the sour kraut.
I have lots of food issues. And so basically I only ate bread and salt & vinegar potato chips for 14 days.

But then I learned so much more.
We entered a town where the only religion was Catholic or atheist. Those who were Catholic only were because their families were. No one practiced it. We were in a group of kids who had no. idea. that. there. is. a. God. who. LOVES. them. And to their surprise, we were going to tell them all about Him! See when you have students eager to learn English, they're eager to read the material. And when your material is carefully chosen scriptures from the bible, and part of your lesson is reading comprehension...well that's right, we HAD to dive in and discuss everything.

So there was this one kid in my class, Mathew. He was an atheist. Hated God actually. His best friend's father died. He couldn't figure out why God would let that happen. I had an "in" with this kid. Chris was his roommate. So we tag teamed it. I would tell Chris what we discussed in class and Chris would pick up where we left off once they got in their rooms. Chris would tell me what they talked about, and I'd drive that point home in class. And so on and so on.

And do you know what happened that very last day of camp?
Mathew accepted Christ!!!!
He let his walls down.
See all along he was desperate for this "God" we love so much but couldn't grasp it.
And finally it clicked for him.
And you know what else?
His sister was a counselor at the camp. She could never get through to him.
She was so stinkin excited.

Then there was another guy who had no idea that he could talk directly to God and we taught him how to pray. It was so amazing how on fire he was because he finally had a connection with Jesus! Just awesome!

I could spend all day telling the ins and outs of this trip. I mean I would go back in a heart beat if I could.

The last day we were there we did baptisms in the river. Amazing.

I'm so blessed to have been a part of it.

3/18/10

Wow.

So let me just say that I was beat up this morning. No, I don't have any black eyes or busted lips. But my heart is a bit shaken.
Why?
Well remember my pity party post from yesterday. Well the things I've been struggling with were outlined in black and white over at Faith Barista's blog today! Now I don't know her, so there's no way she knew all I'm going through. But I do follow her blog. So imaging the dagger to my heart as I read the first sentence in my blog reader this morning:

“The choices are never easy.
We can nurse wounds of having been cheated in life, or we can be grateful and joyful, even though there seems to be little reason for it.
It is this power to choose that adds dignity to our humanity.”
~Gerald Sittser, Professor of Christian Spirituality

Wow. That's really all I can say. Because the rest of her post felt like it chopped my heart into tiny pieces. And now after reading her post, it's time to put me back together the right way. In a glass half-full kind of way. And here are the 4 rules of fearless living that she suggests to do that:

1. Choose the Harder Choice.

2. Keep It Real With Others.

3. Practice Seeing the Glass-Half-Full.

4. Pray For Courage To Make Mistakes.

So on this fair Thursday, I choose to be thankful. I may have to remind myself of that 100 times today, but I WILL be thankful.

My Weekend Consisted Of...

Lots of Winter Guard.

But it was great. Maddie was great!

And then there was the outlet malls too. Even more fabulous!

Happy Hump Day to All!

Happy Wednesday! I was reminded this morning that I haven't blogged in almost a week! What is wrong with me???

I guess I really haven't had a whole lot to say. I'm in a weird place right now. It's like my needs, wants, and goals aren't all on the same page, and there's little evidence that any of them will ever be within reach.

Ok, so I realize that sounds so "poor, pittiful me" but I'm just being honest here. That's the weird place I'm in. It's like a constant argument in my head because part of me knows the truth and the scriptures to fight off those feelings, and the other part of me just wants to wallow in self-pitty! Ick!

I wish there was just a happy switch. But unfortunately, there. is. not.

And while Chris tries to be a good listener, he wants to give me all the reasons I shouldn't feel this way and I guess what I want is a girlfriend to wallow in the pity part with me for a bit. I don't know.
Do you ever just want to have a pitty party? I just need some validation that I have a reason to whine every once in a while.

Ugh!

Ok, moving on, this past weekend we spent Friday and Saturday nights at Maddie's winterguard competitions. She did fabulous as always! I haven't uploaded the pics yet, but I'll be sure to share some once I do! I feel like a little proud momma watching her! She's growing up so fast. She'll be 15 next month!!! What? Where did that cute little innocent girl go? Now since she's Chris' little sister, he is having an extremely difficult time with this growing up thing. Be on the lookout for his mugshot in the paper for brutally beating all of her boyfriends.
I can't even imagine what he'll be like when we have kids of our own!

This weekend is going to be funfilled as well! Me and my aunt are going on a photo escapade through the town! Yippee! I love any reason to take some pictures!

Well that's all for now.

Enjoy your week!

Show Us Your Favorites

It's another 2 for 1 Friday! Since The Other Mama has her Friday Favorites blog carnival that I love AND Kelly's Korner Show Us Your Life topic today is Favorite Charities, what better way to combine them!

Now if you've been reading a while, you know my love for Charity:Water. Water is such a huge issue for many countries. In Africa, people are dying daily due to the lack of clean drinking water. This charity is one I whole heartedly believe in.
I BEG you to check out their website by clicking HERE. You can also click the banner at the top of my blog to check them out. One way to get involved is to ask your friends to donate here for your birthday instead of getting you gifts. Awesome organization! Just AWESOME!

This weekend I found the most awesome charity and could be moving up on my list! ;)
It's a coffee shop called Land of a Thousand Hills. Click HERE. They have several locations and you can buy their coffee online. The company is literally transforming villages in Rwanda. They came in after the genocide of 1994 and are investing in coffee farmers and literally transforming lives. Please please please go to their website and check out their story. It's amazing!

My other favorite charity is St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital. St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility. Discoveries made there have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. I had the priviledge of taking a trip to Memphis and visiting the facility. I can tell you that life is never the same once you've seen a room full of kids fighting for their lives with the most fabulous attitudes and smiles that you've ever seen. And because of St. Jude's, lives are being saved.

I think that most people are created with a need to help others. Sometimes the key is just finding an avenue to give that means something to you. I encourage all of you to find something that you can get involved with and give back. After all, we never know when we might actually need to reap the benefits of a special organization like these.

Big Problems

Yes friends, I've got big problems.
Huge.
Gianormous.
Massive.
What could it be?

Well, it's just that I am here:

And I would really really really love to be here:

Or here:

You know, it's just getting to be that time of year where vacation is on the brain.
Majorly on the brain!

Anyone wanna offer me a free trip?
Just kidding! (unless of course you want to offer me a free trip). :)

Oh happy Thursday to all!

Wonderland and Other Disney Fabulousness

Happy Monday everyone!
The weekends just fly by too fast these days.
Our weekend was jam-packed, but great!

We took a trip to Augusta to visit a wedding venue that I'm shooting at in a few weeks! It was beautiful!

However, the highlight of my weekend just might have been Alice In Wonderland (in 3D no less)!

I must say it was just marvelous!
Me, Chris and his little sister went to see it yesterday!

Now, wouldn't you know this would create insecurity AND an argument?!

Let me take you into our brains a bit....

CT(chris): "I really want to see Alice in Wonderland. It was my favorite movie when I was little."

LT(me): "Alice in Wonderland is a girl movie! Hahaha!"

CT: "How is it a girl movie? It is NOT a girl movie!"

LT: "Well it's certainly not a boy movie!"

CT: "My nanny (that's his grandma)sat and watched it with me all the time. She wouldn't have made me watch girl movies."

LT: "She probably liked it because she was a girl!"

CT: "Well in the 80s, there weren't any Disney boy movies. All of the boy movies didn't come out until the 90s. I guess us boys were supposed to be outside throwing rocks and not watching movies!"

LT: "There were boy movies!"
**sidenote - all of the ones I named were kind of girly.

CT: "Well your job today is to research and see."

LT: "Fine."

So, honey, just for you, here is a list of BOY movies, by Disney (we're talking the classics), from the 1980s!

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Pete's Dragon
The Three Caballeros
Robin Hood
Sword and the Stone
Pinocchio
Dumbo

Boo for you Christopher! Boo. For. You.

2 For 1

It's Friday!!!!!!! Happiness is here!
Today I am participating in two blog carnivals! I figured it would be just as easy to combine the two, so you're getting 2 for 1!

Alright, let's get started.
Today over at Kelly's Korner, the theme for Show Us Your Life is "Show Us Your Typical Day".
I don't think my days are all that riveting. But a typical day usually consists of me getting up, getting ready, fighting with Chris to wake up, and then heading to work. I work for an accounting firm in Atlanta. My job is to take care of the needs of our audit practice! Then I head home around 5pm, me and the hubs have dinner and then there is a super exciting combination of photo editing/reading/homework/blogging/chilling and then bedtime! Like I said, it's riveting. You know you want to be me. :)

Moving right along, we've got The Other Mama and her Friday Favorites! This one us all about your favorite thing for the week!
After thinking long and hard, my favorite thing for this week would have to be the burgers at FLIP. Now, if you live in Atlanta, YOU. MUST. TRY!!!
Oh my, it's sooo good! Like so good that words can't really explain it.
The chef is Richard Blais - he was on Top Chef Chicago (Bravo channel).
So good.
Melts in your mouth.
And don't even get me started on the Nutella chocolate milk shake.
Heaven.
Now after writing all that, I need one. Or two.
Yeah, this is really helping my weight issue!

3/3/10

I Need Your Help

Yes bloggers, YOUR help is needed!
As you know, I own a photography business on the side.
I am trying to figure out some of the most effective ways to market my business in order to gain new business.
See, I'd like this to be full time one day.
SO, here's where you come in:
Could you please let me know ANY ideas you have?
What do/did/would you look for in a photographer?
How would I best convey that on my marketing materials?
What are some things you dislike(d)?

Here are a few things I currently have in the works:
*Bridal Shows
*Making brochures to hand out at local businesses (hair salons, pre-schools, churches, etc)

Other ways you could help:
Suggest me to your friends! Even though I live in GA, I'm willing to travel to nearby states (Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina)for regular sessions. And I'm definitely available for destination weddings!!!
I photograph everything that involves babies, families, weddings, engagements, senior portraits, maternity, etc., etc, etc!

This year is actually off to a great start! I can't wait for more sessions once Spring gets here - everything is so pretty then!

Ok, well thanks so much for helping a sista out!

3/2/10

Good morning! Ok, so since I completely out of creative blog post ideas today, I'm stealing one from Amber at A Little Pink in the Cornfields. Not like you really care to know all this, it's a fun little lovebird questionnaire all about me and my honey.

1. What are your middle names?
Mine is Anne and his is Buchanan

2. How long have you been together?
Our first date was April 17, 2004, so almost 6 years.

3. How long did you know each other before you started dating?
7 months

4. Who asked who out?
He asked me out.

5. How old are each of you?
He'll be 29 in September and I will be 27 in September.

6. Did you go to the same school?
Nope.

7. Are you from the same home town?
Close, but know. We grew up about 30 minutes from each other.

8. Who is the smartest?
Depends on the subject. I would say I'm more book smart, but he knows a little something about everything (or at least he acts like it).

9. Who majored in what?
Well let's see here. He has a broadcasting degree that he's never used. Currently he's attending a college for a degree in religion. I have pretty much been through every major my school offers, but I only have about a year to go before I finally get a degree, which will be in Christian counseling.

10. Who is the most sensitive?
Hmmm...that's a toughy. We both are really sensitive but in completely different ways.

11. Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Slovakia. We went on a mission trip together before we got married.

12. Who has the worst temper?
Another toughy. Mine blows a lot more often, but when he finally blows up - watch out.

13. How many children do you want?
Probably two.

14. Who does the cooking?
That would be me. However the rule is if I cook, he cleans up.

15. Who is more social?
I would think it's me, but it's really him. He's worse than a girl.

16. Who is the neat freak?
Me.

17. Who is the most stubborn?
Both of us are pretty bad, but I might top the cake.

18. Who wakes up earlier?
Me again!

19. Where was your first date?
Outback Steakhouse and then a movie at his house.

20. Who has the bigger family?
I would say him. It's pretty close though.

21. Do you get flowers often?
I used to. It's ok though, I get irritated because it's money spent on something that will die in a few days - and our cat eats them, knocks them over, etc. It's really just more trouble than they're worth!

22. How do you spend the holidays?
Together and running around from family to family!

23. Who is more jealous?
That would be him.

24. How long did it take to get serious?
5 days.

25. Who eats more?
Him again!

26. What do you do for a living?
He is a creative arts director for a church and I am a partner assistant at an accounting firm.

27. Who does the laundry?
We split it.

28. Who's better with the computer?
I'm gonna say he is, just because he used to work in IT.

29. Who drives when you are together?
We carpool, so he is my shaufer.

30. What is your song?
I don't think we have one. Sad, I know. He says that Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Pride and Joy" is my song but we don't necessarily have one as a couple.

Finito!

Happy Monday blogger world!
I am so completely excited because I finally finished the editing of photos from my brother's wedding! I'm feeling much better now. I forced myself to make a 1 week turnaround all to save 9 whole dollars! I mean really, it wasn't worth all the late nights for $9, but oh well - they're done! And ordered! And now just waiting for delivery!
Overall I was pleased with how everything turned out. I had a few minor techincal difficulties with my camera. It wasn't my camera's fault. Just some lighting issues. But I think I've got a pretty good finished product!
Now I'm resting up because I've got a big wedding at the end of this month. I'm heading to see the venue next Saturday and I'm super excited!
You can see more of the photos by clicking HERE.

And in other news, Chris got a job! Praise the Lord! It's pretty much his dream job with his dream boss, so I'm really excited. It's amazing how everything always works out with a purpose.

Ok, and remeber a couple of weeks ago I was going to start reading So Long Insecurity? Well I didn't get the book until this weekend, so I'm starting it today.

That's really about all in my somewhat boring life at the moment.
