2013 - Year In Review!

What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?
Took a trip to Paris!
Also lived in 3 states.

Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
my biggest goal of the year was more Jesus. and well, i've had to lean on Him more than ever. so i'm gonna say yes, i kept that one. i will probably make some for next year too.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
A bajillion people. But we'll go with my little brother and sister in-law with the birth of my niece Maggie

Did anyone close to you die?
Not this year - thank God.

What countries did you visit?
France!

What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
direction. a clear life direction.

What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory?
A couple. Definitely 9/13 - I turned 30. And of course our December trip to Paris.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
hmm....in all honesty, i've felt a bit like a worthless human this year, so i'm not sure that i have one.

What was your biggest failure?
too high of expectations of people

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Oh yes. I was taking Shakeology shakes and somehow developed an allergic reaction to it. Two trips to the ER, a shot of steroids, and a steroid pack later, I was all better. Definitely had me down for about a week.

What was the best thing you bought?
my wardrobe for paris! or the new iphone 5s.

Where did most of your money go?
sadly, probably to eating out. 2013 has been a year of craziness and limbo which has equaled eating out for convenience.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I know I keep saying Paris, but seriously, it's a dream come true! And THEN I squared everything away for my college graduation...at age 30. I don't graduate until May, but getting to submit my graduation application was life changing!

What song will always remind you of 2013?
i'm gonna go with "oceans" by hillsong united. it was a bit of a pivotal point in our lives and that song summed everything up. "spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters, wherever you would call me"

Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? Hmmm....I'm not sure. Maybe about the same. December was good both years.
Thinner or fatter? the same
Richer or poorer? i guess richer - only because we managed to save some money instead of spend it all.

What do you wish you’d done more of?
embraced the moments.

What do you wish you’d done less of?
worrying about what other people were thinking/saying about me.

How will you be spending Christmas?
This year we're actually hosting Christmas at our house, which I'm super excited about.

Did you fall in love in 2013?
with Paris! haha.

How many one-night stands?
that would be none. 0. zilch. nada.

Who were your best friends?
my best friends really haven't changed much at all - thank goodness!

What thing did you do that was meaningful to others?
i think probably just being a good friend and willing to listen.

What were your favorite TV programs?
Big Bang Theory, New Girl and Duck Dynasty. Oh yes and Pioneer Woman and Barefoot Contessa.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
hate is a strong word. and luckily i've had some time to forgive, but there's definitely a person i strongly dislike this year that i thought was an upstanding person last year.

What was the best book you read in 2013?
since school has been an all consuming event in my life, my reading time has been greatly decreased. BUT there was a book i started (but haven't yet finished) that I loved, called One Thousand Gifts. Amazingly wonderful. But then on the plane home from Paris I read, A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet. Hands down, one of the best books I've ever read.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
oh goodness, this one is terribly difficult. i'm a bit of a music obessionist, to which i troll itunes every tuesday when new music is released looking for greatness. and i've found a lot of greatness this year.  there's no way i could narrow it to just one. it's been different levels of greatness depending on the different levels of the roller coaster that is my life.

What did you want and get?
a tiara for my birthday; a trip to Paris.

What did you want but did NOT get?
well there's a whole board on pinterest dedicated to my "wants" that for some reason, my husband refuses to purchase from. hmpfh!

What was your favorite film of this year?
i do love movies. strangely, one of my favorites from this year was Life of Pi. totally not what i expected it to be, but oh so good.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
this year was the big 30! we drove to Atlanta and my husband has organized a surprise party for me with some of my favorite people.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
i'm not sure. maybe clarification on a few things. a glimpse into how a baby is going to come into our lives; understanding why relationships change; you know...everyday stuff lol.

What kept you sane?
most definitely Jesus. yes, lots and lots and lots of Jesus.

What political issue stirred you the most?
honestly, i try really hard to stay out of politics. i know, i know...i should definitely be in the loop. but it's all a bunch of crap, no matter what side you're on.

Who did you miss?
that's a loaded question. i missed my mom more than usual this year. maybe it was due to all the transitions this year held for me. but i've also missed the connection with my family. pretty sure "out of site out of mind" has been the family motto for the year. never in my life have i felt as alone as i have this year.

Who was the best new person you met this year?
well being that in 2013 i have lived in 3 states, i have met some really awesome people this year. i can't possibly narrow it to just one.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
life is full of ups and downs, but they all equal experience that is needed.

Quote that sums up your year:
"if at first you fall, get up and try again."
